Kafi's Journey

I am a Caribbean product with an Antiguan mother of mixed heritage and a Guyanese father of Portuguese lineage. Having been raised between a few West Indian islands, many local dishes featured on our table. In those days the distance between the food and the table was short! Local meats, fish, fruit and produce allowed me to have a healthy appreciation for indigenous foods.

My vegan journey began at 15 with the elimination of red meat for health reasons. It evolved to fish only for cleaner fuel. Fast forward to today, and every meal is nourishment without cruelty, support for local farmers and a more sustainable lifestyle. I also raised my large family vegan! All my children are healthy, intelligent and strong.

My connection with Dina and Andrew began with an epic painting by Dina of my family, "School Run". Their change to a vegetarian way of eating also coincided with me starting The Cat's Meow delivery service. The Cat's Meow Vegan Café is a perfect complement to Rotten Hill - Arts and Meditation Centre. We've enjoyed 3 wonderful seasons together!!

"Such a wonderful place! The food tasted amazing and was so fresh and healthy! All vegan/plant-based! 🌱🙂 The people and the property itself are also lovely! 💚☀️ Don't get fooled by the quite rough road you have to drive on and the chaotic looking farm you have to drive through to get there - you are on the right path! It is well worth a visit and we definitely plan on coming back! It was so lovely!"

"I cannot recommend this beautiful Cafe' highly enough! As people who come from an incredibly vegan city in the UK we struggled a bit in Antigua, but this Cafe' was a refreshing find ❤️ We had an amazing roti with sides, and a brownie and coffee for pudding. All of it was amazing 😍 (I forgot to take a photo until I had already eaten some 😆🙈) The location is a beautiful Buddhist retreat and we stayed and chatted to Catherine for ages, she is an absolute sweetheart ❤️

A dine-in lunch is such a treat in that tranquil setting, but we also recently contacted Cat to cater a multi-day workshop and our participants were blown away by the quality and creativity of the meals and juices.
